CO2 Tank Safety

Updated on

We are required by fire code to secure the CO2 tank used by the Pea Soup Phantom Hazer. This article will show two ways to achieve this level of safety. We want to prevent the ability for the tank to tip over, break the nozzle, and fly across the room, damaging property, or worse, a person.

Each location has a primary and backup tank; both tanks must be secured.

This is not optional or a recommendation.

Recommended Method - Universal Tie Down Strap

The easiest way to achieve the results is with a cheap tie-down strap; it doesn't have to be a fancy ratcheting strap. They can be easily found at Home Depot, Lowe's, or Walmart.

This is the recommended method.

Attach the tank to the stage leg with the tie-down.

The backup tank can be stored in the same way as the primary tank. Purchase a 2nd ratchet strap and fasten the backup tank to another stage leg.

Other Option: Tank Base

If a stage leg or steel building column is not an available option, a generic tank base will help add stability, as seen below.
