Ever wondered how to create a lighting cue for baptism that doesn't turn of when your worship cues are playing? Here is a tutorial on how to set one up! This method uses an HTP(High Target Priority) cue-list to control your wash lighting. Using an HTP cue-list allows the fixtures to act completely independently from other cues.
1. Open Jands Vista:
LFirst, launch the Jands Vista application, located in the dock of the lighting computer or in the applications folder under finder.
2. Open Your Current Showfile:
Upon launching the Vista application, a window will open that show four options. For this article, it is assumed that it is not the first time Vista has been used on the machine. Jands will show these four different options:
- Open "[Name Of Show]"
- Open show...
- Import Show...
- Create new Show
Select the box that says "(Open "Name of Show")".
If you have access to the campus master file, make sure this is the master file and not a sub file that is specific to a weekend. This will ensure that this cue-list will be available for future use.
3. Go to Console View:
Now that the showfile is open, switch to the console view. This is located in the top left of the Vista window.
Vista has six different views: Patch, Console, Fixture Chooser, Timeline, Playback, and DMX Output.
4. Create a New Cue-List:
To create a new cue-list, we want to have an open spot on our console (see image below). When an open space has been identified on the Jands console, hold down command ⌘ on the computers keyboard. This will bring up the option in the console window that says 'New'. Click the corresponding button on the lighting console with where you would like the cue-list to go.
Upon selecting where you want the cue-list to be placed, the window will automatically switch to the 'Fixture Chooser' window.
Name both the cue-list and cue by clicking on the name, and typing the new desired name. This will help you identify the cue-list in the future, or while operating the console.
5. Create The Look:
Now that you have your new cue-list named, you are ready to set the lighting look you want. Take all of the lights that you are using to light your baptism pool, and adjust all parameters of the light that you need to in order to achieve the desired look.
6. Save The Look:
After finding the desired lighting look, save the cue-list so you do not lose any of the changes you made.
Locate the red "X" at the top of the screen.
This will load a pop-up with four options: Save, Save & Release, Discard, and Cancel.
Select "Save" to save all changes to your cue-list.
7. Navigate to Console View"
To make your cue-list an HTP cue-list, first navigate back to console view.
8. Setting HTP (High Target Priority):
Change the cue-list settings to be in HTP mode. While in the console view, find the list of cue lists located on the right-hand side of the Vista window.
Next, find the cue list you previously labeled. In this case, the cue list we are changing is labeled "Baptism". Once the cue-list is located, right-click.
In the dropdown tab that will populate after right-clicking, go down to "Properties" and click. This will open up a new window.
There are a few steps that are necessary to take here.
1. Change Priority from "Normal" to "Programmer".
2. Change HTP enabled from "Off" to "On".
3. Change Fader Auto Play from "Off" to "Auto Play & Release". This feature allows the fader to control cue-list playback. Push the fader up to play the cue-list; bring the fader back down to release.
4. Drop down the timing tab.
5. Change Release Timing from "2 secs" to "0 secs".
After all settings are changed, click "Ok" at the bottom of the Cuelist Properties page and test out your new cue.
9. Save The Showfile:
Make sure the showfile is saved after all of these steps have been completed.
