Hyperdeck Best Practices

Updated on

What is a Hyperdeck?

A Hyperdeck is a video playback device (shown below, installed directly above a Resi unit) that is utilized for message distribution on the weekends. It is similar to the KiPros, but in this article we'll walk through differences as well as best uses of these devices.

This device will be utilized as a backup to your Resi unit on a weekend. It records similarly to a KiPro, however the message can be remotely loaded by our Central team, and will be, on a normal weekend basis. Another difference is that KiPros have to be manually turned on. Hyperdecks are always on and should not be turned off unless advised by and AVL team member. If this device is off, there could be errors with message transfer.

The "411 (Weekend Info)" should have any information regarding issues with files on a weekend. If you find yourself without a file on the weekend, please post in the "911 (Weekend Support)" channel so we can push one to you as soon as possible.

Here is a walkthrough of the controls on this device.

The main buttons this article will cover are:

  • Play - This button will play the selected file that would be loaded o your Hyperdeck.
  • Stop - This button will stop the file that is currently playing. Please do not press this button in service.
  • Rew, F Fwd - These are a good way to scroll through the file if you're trying to get to a certain point.
  • Rec - This button is used to record the incoming feed to a storage card, but I have good news! With this device we are able to push the file remotely, meaning no more need to come in and record. This would only be used in an emergency scenario.
  • Skip - This is the fastest way to jump to either the beginning or end of the file. There should only be one file at a time on your device and you can walk through Formatting the Hyperdeck Drive.
  • Input - This button would only be used in the case we need to record the message physically on your device in an emergency.

There are a few more buttons to go over.

The only buttons needed to talk about here are "Menu" and "Set".

Menu - This button is used to access the menu, but is also used to back out of a menu.

Set - This button is the enter or "Select" key.

These buttons should only be used for formatting drives and should not be used on a Sunday unless advised by an AVL team member.

Rem - "Remote" needs to be illuminated for the message to remotely fire.

Now you hopefully understand these buttons and their use on a Hyperdeck. If you still have questions, please feel free to reach out to [email protected] for help.
