Moving IEM mixes within a scene on a Yamaha QL5/CL5

Updated on

At Life.Church, there is occasionally a need to copy and paste an IEM mix. For example, if the person who normally uses the BGV 2 mix has to move to BGV 3 for a day, this function will help that person start with a comfortable mix, even though they are using a different mix bus.

Turn "Recall Safe" off on all IEM mixes

The most important step to preparing for this is to ensure that Recall Safe is off on all IEM mixes. If recall safe is on, the mix will not be transferred from scene to scene.

Save a backup "bank" of IEM mixes

Before anything is moved, be sure to save a "bank" of IEM mixes. Without a backup bank, the mix that we paste over will be overwritten, and lost. To save a backup, simply copy the most current scene (using the store and recall screen), and paste it to an empty slot on the console. Rename the backup scene with something that makes the most sense to you. We suggest using something along the lines of "UTD (up to date) IEM Sunday".

Select CH Job on the console screen

Select "Copy" in the bottom of the menu

Select the mix channel that needs to be copied/moved

On the QL5, navigate to the "Mix/Master" layer.

On the CL5, select the desired mix layer in the middle fader bank.

Press the Select (Sel) button above the mix that needs to be copied.

The console screen will reflect the selection by highlighting the choice in green, as shown below.

Select the mix to paste over (Destination channel)

Press the (Sel) button above the destination channel

Verify that "With Mix Sends" is highlighted

Press "Copy" on the console screen

After the use of this copied mix is over, paste the original mix back into place

Pull the original mix from the "backup bank" scene, and paste it back into place.
